Smart Food Chain Consortium

This is an industry–government-academia consortium formed to promote the construction of the Smart Food Chain Platform (WAGRI-dev) during SIP Phase 2.

SIP Phase 2 began in 2018 and it comprises 12 subjects, including Technologies for Smart Bio-industry and Agriculture, a plan targeting the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sector. The Smart Food Chain Consortium runs one of this subject's major projects.

Smart Food Chain Consortium Intiatives

The Agricultural Data Collaboration Platform (WAGRI) was built during SIP Phase 1 to promote the development of smart production sites. SIP Phase 2 involves the construction of the Smart Food Chain Platform (WAGRI-dev), an expanded version of WAGRI.

WAGRI-dev will help realize the Consortium's goal of a 'Smart Food Chain' by serving as a platform for the uniform sharing of data pertaining to the production, processing, distribution, sale, export and consumption of agricultural products and foods.

~The expected impact of WAGRI-dev~

The construction of WAGRI-dev will promote the digitization of Japan's food chains (including imports and exports), the customization of production to consumption, and the streamlining of distribution through seamless matching (such as joint deliveries), among other things.
